Description

If you’re craving a crispy, creamy seafood bite that’s ready for any party platter, these Crab Bombshells are your ticket to instant applause. Bursting with sweet lump crab, melty cheese, and just the right amount of spice, they’re the kind of finger food that disappears faster than you can make them.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lump crab meat (fresh or canned), drained and checked for shells
  • 1 cup cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup plain breadcrumbs (plus extra if needed)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Oil for frying (if deep-frying)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Get everything ready
    • Before you start mixing, drain your crab well and pick through it for any stray shells. Line a baking sheet with parchment if you plan to bake.
  2. Build the flavor base
    • In a large mixing bowl, stir together the crab meat, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, breadcrumbs, green onions, garlic powder, Old Bay, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Hold it together
    • Pour in the beaten egg and mix until everything is evenly coated and holds its shape. If the mixture feels too wet, sprinkle in a bit more breadcrumbs.
  4. Shape the bombs
    • Scoop about two tablespoons of the crab mixture and roll into a firm ball. Continue until all the mixture is used up.
  5. Pick your cooking style
    • Baked version: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the crab bombs on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden and set.
    • Fried version: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry the crab bombs in small batches, turning as needed, until deep golden and crispy—about 4–5 minutes per side.
  6. Drain & finish
    • For the fried version, transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess oil.
  7. Serve and enjoy
    • Sprinkle with fresh parsley (if desired) and serve these beauties piping hot with your favorite dipping sauces. These little crab-packed bites are a surefire crowd-pleaser, whether you serve them as a party appetizer, a game-day snack, or a treat for yourself.
