Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (57 g) powdered sugar, plus extra for rolling
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- ÂĽ teaspoon ground allspice
- ÂĽ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon dark molasses
- 2ÂĽ cups (279 g) all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Prep & Heat
- Preheat your oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream Butter & Sugar
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until it’s light and airy (about 20 seconds).
- Add ½ cup powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and all the spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cloves). Pour in the molasses and mix again until completely smooth.
- Form the Dough
- Gradually stir in the flour. The mixture will first look dry and crumbly—keep mixing! After a minute or two, it will pull together into a soft dough.
- Shape the Snowballs
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and set each ball 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets.
- Bake & Coat
- Slide into the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, just until the undersides begin to take on a pale golden hue.
- Remove the trays and let the cookies rest for about 1 minute—just until you can handle them without burning your fingers.
- Sugar Shower
- Pour extra powdered sugar into a small bowl. While the cookies are still warm, gently roll each one in sugar until fully covered. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the ultimate snowy look, give each cookie one more roll in sugar once they’re fully cooled.
