Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup white granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons caramel coffee creamer (or regular milk)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup dark cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 batch of Salted Caramel Frosting
- Coarse sea salt, for garnish
Instructions
- Prep the pan & oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray so your bars lift out like a dream.
- Cream the base: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla, and caramel creamer (or milk), then beat again until fully combined.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until a soft dough comes together.
- Shape & bake: Press the dough evenly into your prepared pan. Bake for 14–15 minutes—don’t overbake or you’ll lose that soft, fudgy bite. Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan.
- Frost & finish: Once cooled, spread the salted caramel frosting evenly over the top. Sprinkle with a pinch of coarse sea salt for that perfect sweet-salty hit.
- Slice & store: Cut into 24 squares and store in an airtight container to keep them soft and fresh.
